A&E GREENLIGHTS NEW ORIGINAL DRAMA SERIES
‘THE BEAST’ STARRING PATRICK SWAYZE & TRAVIS FIMMEL
NEW YORK, NY – June 9, 2008 – A&E Network has greenlit the network’s second original scripted drama series with “The Beast,” starring Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel, it was announced today by Bob DeBitetto, Executive Vice President & General Manager, A&E Network. “The Beast” will begin production on the 13-one hour episode order this summer in Chicago, and is tentatively slated to premiere in early 2009.
“We’re very excited to begin series production on ‘The Beast’ and even more thrilled to have Patrick on board reprising the role he played so powerfully in the pilot opposite Travis, who is certainly an emerging talent in his own right,” said DeBitetto. “In addition to exceptional lead characters, ‘The Beast’ is unique in its combination of emotional storytelling, compelling plotlines and action elements.”
“I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this muti-layered, unpredictable and downright entertaining, as well as a project this current and cutting edged,” said Swayze. “There are constant twists and turns, because we never know what this ‘Charles Barker’ is going to do next! Not only is the show driven by plot, but as important, it’s character driven. We have an incredibly talented team of writers and staff, Chicago is an amazing, untapped city. I can’t wait to get to work on this.”
In “The Beast,” an unorthodox but effective FBI veteran (Swayze) trains a new partner (Fimmel) in his hard-edged and psychologically clever style of agenting while himself being pursued by a secret Internal Affairs team. The mischievous veteran hazes his new partner as they work undercover, brilliantly manipulating situations, constantly testing his new partner and pushing him to delve deeper into his “roles.” As he realizes he can no longer maintain normal relationships and still do his job, the rookie is confronted with yet another challenge: An FBI team trying to enlist him as a double-agent in the bureau’s investigation of his partner.
“The Beast” is executive produced by Allan Loeb and Steven Pearl for Scarlet Fire Films (“New Amsterdam”) and Cory Concoff (“Beltway”) for Fuel Filmworks. John Romano (“American Dreams,” “Third Watch”) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer. The pilot script was written by William Rotko (“Breach,” “Beltway”) and Vincent Angell (Stand By Love) who will also serve as co-executive producers. Michael Dinner (“The Wonder Years,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) directed the pilot. “The Beast” will be produced by Sony Pictures Television for A&E Network.

History’s popular series returns for a third season
THE UNIVERSE
New Season Premieres on Tuesday, November 11 at 9pm
With “Deep Space Disasters”
NEW YORK, NOV. 7, 2008 – From the planets to the stars and out to the edge of the unknown, history and science collide in this popular History™ series, now back for its third season. Today, robotic rovers give us eyes on the red rock of Mars… NASA probes slam into comets at hyper speed… Deep space telescopes capture violent images of the birth of stars and their collapse into black holes… All of these have significantly changed the way we look at ourselves. And although 50 years have flown by since man first ventured into outer space, the heavens are only now yielding their greatest secrets. Season Three of THE UNIVERSE premieres on History on Wednesday, November 11 at 9pm ET/PT.
Using vivid computer graphics and engaging top experts in the field, this series brings the universe down to earth to show what life would be like on other planets, and to imagine what kind of life forms might evolve in alien atmospheres. All-new topics this time on THE UNIVERSE will include space disasters, parallel universes, light speed and sex in space. Each episode examines how the discoveries were made and the fascinating stories of the scientists and explorers who dared to venture into the uncharted territory of the universe.
Upcoming episodes:
DEEP SPACE DISASTERS (Nov. 11)
In space travel there is a saying that the first 50 miles and the last 50 miles are the most dangerous. SPACE DISASTERS will explore the controlled explosion of launch, the fiery crucible of reentry and everything in between. See how a single spark inside a spacecraft or a micrometeoroid less than an inch wide hitting a space station can turn a routine mission into a lethal nightmare. As the missions become longer, venturing to Mars and beyond, the potential disasters will only become bigger. And what would happen if a spacecraft ventured too close to a black hole or was hit by a gamma ray burst? SEASON PREMIERE!
PARALLEL UNIVERSES (Nov. 18)
It may seem like science fiction, but some of the world’s leading physicists today believe they’ve found startling new evidence for the existence of universes other than our own. If Cosmologists, “String Theory” superstars, and trailblazing physicists are right – then parallel universes are not just possible, they’re inevitable. One possibility: the universe is so vast that exact replicas of our Solar System, our planet and ourselves – “Doppelganger Universes” – exist many times over within our own Universe, in what scientist now call “The Multiverse.” In another scenario, the same “inflationary” forces that gave birth to our universe could create other Parallel Universes. In yet another concept, “Many Worlds” spring as a result of every decision or choice we make. In each of these multiple worlds, things happen in every exotic and fantastic way each of us has ever imagined. Trailblazing experiments by massive, state-of-the art particle colliders are looking for evidence of higher dimensions and Parallel Universes.
LIGHT SPEED (Nov. 25)
The laws of physics say we can never travel faster than Light Speed – or can we? This episode explores it all, including the ways scientists envision breaking the “light barrier” needed for the star travel of our imaginations. Light speed is the ultimate constant in the universe. Though incredibly fast from a human perspective, in the scales of space it’s agonizingly slow. Light speed lets us see things instantly here on Earth, and shows the history of the universe going back nearly 14 billion years. Traveling at close to light speed, our surroundings become distorted and misshapen as space and time bend over backward to maintain the speed of light as a rock-solid constant. In the vacuum of space, the speed of light may not change; but in other media, it slows down and bends – allowing glass lenses to do their work (and the invention of telescopes), and without which what our eyes see would be a featureless blur.
SEX IN SPACE (Dec. 2)
As humans move to colonize the cosmos, the realities of sexual relationships and reproduction need to be addressed – and the physiological, psychological and cultural challenges of sex in space. This episode looks at how the extreme environments of space exploration might effect copulation, conception and developing human tissues, as well as how issues around sex might impact the emotional lives of astronauts. It gets to the bottom of the rumors to find out if space sex has already happened, and looks at how the burgeoning space tourism business may soon lead to a boom in space sex.
Other upcoming topics include: ALIEN FACES – scientists, astrobiologists and astronomers create five lines of extraterrestrial evolution, and explain how creatures on the surface of Earth offer a helping hand to understanding life in the universe…. DEADLY COMETS AND METEORS – how asteroids and comets have left their imprint on planet Earth, how they still threaten man’s existence; and how they may also present great resource opportunities … LIVING IN SPACE – where and in what form will our new homes and lifestyles develop when we eventually leave the cradle of Earth and venture forth into the uncharted territories of the cosmos to do more than visit.
The official minisite, http://history.com/universe, will include the exclusive Interactive Universe, fast facts and Backyard Astronomer videos.
History is promoting The Universe Season Three with a “Hunt Through History Sweepstakes” where viewers search online for answers to Universe-themed trivia questions. Correct answers will enter them for a chance to win one of two trips to the Kennedy Space Center. The promotion will also be featured in InMotion stores throughout November.

Beneath the streets of every city, lies a layered history…
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD
Season Three Premiere on Sunday, October 26 at 9pm ET/PT on History ™
Don Wildman Returns as Host
NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 16, 2008— Every city has its secrets. And, you’d be surprised to learn what lies below the surface of some. Turning history upside-down,
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD, debuts its third season Sunday, October 26 at 9pm ET/PT on History ™.
Don Wildman is back, and he’s tearing through the streets of the world’s most famous cities to uncover secrets hundreds of feet beneath the pavement. Part history buff, part urban explorer— Don tells the story that you don’t get above ground. This season, he takes viewers into meandering combat tunnels, mafia escape routes, underground vaults, secret surveillance nerve centers, and forgotten underworlds that have been lost to the hands of time.
Whether it’s underneath London, Sicily, or Las Vegas— these are vibrant cities teeming with life, not roped off excavation sites. Join Don as he explores and investigates sites mostly unknown to all but archaeologists and locals of the land. Walk in the footsteps of history as state-of-the-art computer graphics bring to life and detail how a modern city miraculously doesn’t collapse onto the past hidden safely below.
The first four episodes of CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD include:
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD: CITY OF BLOOD (London)
(Sunday, October 26 at 9:00pm ET/PT) — Hundreds of ghost stories lurk in the shadows of London, England, but behind every myth and legend is the terrifying truth that sheds light on one of the darkest periods of this city’s history. In Victorian times, violent crimes, extreme poverty and lawlessness forced Londoners to band together to survive. In a time when science and medicine challenged the Church, and disease and overpopulation drove the poor to do jobs only the Devil himself could imagine, London set the stage for chaos. From body snatchers and serial killers to occult clubs and pagan rituals, Victorian Londoners lived by their own rules…both above and below ground. Don Wildman explores London from the bottom up and tells the stories most would rather remain buried.
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD: TUNNELS OF HELL (Okinawa)
(Sunday, November 2 at 9:00pm ET/PT) — When the biggest naval armada in US history descended on the Japanese island of Okinawa in April of 1945, the result was called a “Typhoon of Steel.” It was supposed to be a swift victory for the Americans. Instead, it became the bloodiest battle of the Pacific, drawn out for over three months, with thousands more dead on both sides than in both post-atomic Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. But the battle wasn’t just on land, it was underneath it – from the beehive of combat tunnels where American forces faced down the entrenched Japanese Army, to the caves where thousands of civilians hid and hundreds perished. In this episode, Don Wildman discovers what it was like to live through the Battle of Okinawa. He heads underground to the subterranean tunnels, caves, and bunkers, where few have gone, and dives to explore the lost naval destroyer sunken deep in the waters off Okinawa’s coast.
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD: THE REAL MAFIA UNDERGROUND (Sicily)
(Sunday, November 9 at 9:00pm ET/PT) — The mafia instills fear around the world, and in Sicily, its presence can’t be ignored. With the help of the underground, this is where the mob got its start. Don Wildman travels to Sicily to trace the mafia’s roots back to a vigilante secret society in an underground network that was created to hold trials against corrupt city officials and execute the accused. Don tracks the escape route of a most-wanted mob boss through ancient subterranean waterways, and discovers a bone-crypt that holds the key to Sicily’s violent past. He’ll even expose how the mafia teamed up with the Allies during WWII, undermining the Axis’ line of bunkers deep within the hillside… and embedding themselves into Sicilian society for good.
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD: LAS VEGAS
(Sunday, November 16 at 9:00pm ET/PT) — Welcome to Las Vegas, America’s Sin City, where billions of dollars are lost and made every year on our national vices. In order to protect their cash, casinos have made security the highest priority. From underground vaults to secret surveillance nerve centers, Don Wildman uncovers how the latest technology beats the cheaters. But Vegas wasn’t always this high-tech. Don shows how a massive engineering feat transformed the city from a barren desert into a mobster metropolis where thieves ran the show from underground tunnels dating back to Prohibition. And just when it looked like all the thugs were behind bars and the city would fall off the map for good, Vegas became the comeback kid. It’s the only city in the world where you can be in Egypt one moment and Italy the next, thanks to a secret underground that allows the show to get bigger and better every time.
On History.com, CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD’s website will feature exclusive video blogs from Don Wildman on the road, an interactive map of some of Don’s favorite cities and highlights for each place, an online interactive scrapbook with souvenirs from Don’s travels, as well as full episodes from previous seasons.
Don Wildman, who is in his third season as host of CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD, is a true adventurer. Raised on the outskirts of Southern New Jersey’s Pine Barrens, Don paddled canoes and camped in those fabled woods from an early age. Passionately drawn to travel and outdoor adventure, he was inspired in part by what he watched on television—in particular, the documentary adventures of Jacques Cousteau and his legendary vessel, Calypso.
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD is produced by Authentic Entertainment in association with Thirty Four Productions. Executive Producer for History ™ is Marlene Braga.

The special preview dvd for Jurassic Fight Club sat on my entertainment center for a week before I was able to find the time to watch it. All the while I wondered what it would bring. Would Brad Pitt jump out in a T-Rex suit and rip off the head of a Triceratops? I didn’t know. By the time I sat down to watch, here’s what I learned:
The new program JFC, brought to you by The History Channel, is pretty darn cool. You’ll see CGI animations of what the dinosaurs would have looked like in their natural environments, how they would have acted, viewed the world, interacted with other dinosaurs, what they would have eaten, and how they would have behaved day to day.
How can they do all that you say? Well, that’s another cool thing about the program. They SHOW you how they came to their conclusions. Whether they be marks on bones, CAT Scans of fossils, or by studying current day animal behavior and making certain assumptions, they can piece things together fairly well.
If you’re looking for the new Jurassic Park sequel, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for some cool CGI of dino’s in their world and want to know more about them, this is it!
I know I’ll be watching just to see what they discover next! Join me on Tuesday nights watching this original new series on The History Channel.

Both Jurassic Fight Club and Jurassic Fight Club: Turf Wars feature extensive live-action HD location production as well as hours of full-CG imagery recreating the dinosaur battlefields where the weak were separated from the strong. In recent years, archaeologists have gained new insight into a predatory world inhabited by cunning, quick-thinking, highly maneuverable dinosaurs. The game explores such ultimate fighters such as T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Utahraptor, Pachyrhinosaurus, and Majungatholus. Along with each new character, the game will present unique cheats as the season progresses.

Ever watch a program for a year or two, or five and it suddenly turns to crap when the next season begins? Well, that does not happen with Monk! I’ve had an opportunity to review an episode (Mr. Monk Buy a House) from the upcoming season and have to say that it is all Monk. If you’ve enjoyed the series to date, you’ll love the new season. While Monk continues to strive to improve himself, he continues to be Monk. Great fun, great comedy, and great entertainment. If you’re anything like me, you’ve already got the DVR set for the season.
